Accident victim's father: London roads too dangerous for cyclists

A man whose son died after his bike was struck by a bus in north London has called for the capital’s roads to be made safer for cyclists. 25-year-old Sam Harding died on August 6 as he tried to avoid the open door of a parked car in Upper Holloway. He was struck by a single decker 153 bus outside McDonald’s on Holloway Road. Mr Harding’s father Keith, who lived with his son in Crouch End, told the Evening Standard that he did not blame anyone for his son’s death but wanted action taken. "Something needs to be done for cycling... Some of our roads are not designed for cyclists. I don't blame anyone for what happened. I've been a cyclist and I've been a driver. But I do feel there is an issue about safety for cyclists on the road." A 31-year old motorist has been released on bail in connection with the accident, to return to a police station in December. Mr Harding was on his way to move in with his girlfriend in Blackheath when the cycling accident occurred.
